The breakfast was beyond disappointing & the waiters/waitresses failed to smile but added a 20% tip or service charge which every American is expected to pay but coming from the UK and as I do not pay taxes in the USA I find it insulting to be forced to pay a tip for substandard food and service at the restaurant in house. In particular the steak and egg was disgusting and frankly we should have a refund for inedible breakfast charged at astronomical prices. What a huge disappointment.

The view was amazing and it was a great location. Lots of restaurants around and there was a park and some trails right down to the lake. The bed was very comfortable, everything was clean.

The restaurant was AMAZING- we ate there every day! The hotel was a perfect location for visiting Field Museum and Shedd Aquarium, which is why we were there. Very clean and modern bathroom, super comfy beds with amazing loads of pillows!

We were in Chicago for the marathon and the Essex was in a perfect location both for the race and exploring the city more generally. Our room was a reasonable size and was clean and well serviced each day.
